Notice is hereby given that the Town of Swanton Selectboard adopted revisions to the “TOWN OF SWANTON ORDINANCE REGARDING ENHANCED 911 ROAD NAMING, ROAD SIGNS, AND ADDRESSING” at its Tuesday, September 25, 2018 special meeting. The Selectboard revised Section IV General Numbering System Guidelines by changing the road numbering increment from 50 feet to 5.28 feet. The 5.28' increment is 1/1000th of a mile which is more effective because it will address narrow, stovepipe lots that are less than 50' wide. It will also allow first responders to calculate the distance to an address by multiplying 5.28' times the street number. For example, multiplying 5.28' times 100 Jones Street = 528'. This tells the first responder that 100 Jones Street is 528' from where Jones Street begins.
In accordance with 24 VSA Sections 1972 & 1973, notice of these adopted revisions is being published in a local newspaper and on the Town of Swanton website (www.townofswantonvermont.weebly.com) within 14 days of the date of adoption. Qualified voters of the Town of Swanton who oppose the adopted revisions have the right to petition for a vote on the revisions at an annual or special meeting as provided in 24 VSA Section 1973. Unless a petition is filed within 44 days of the adoption, the adopted revisions shall become effective on November 24, 2018. Requests for more information, questions, or comments on the adopted revisions may be directed to Town Administrator David Jescavage at 868-7418 or by emailing at email@example.com or by writing to P.O. Box 711, Swanton, VT 05488.
